LIIAR ANALYSIS

FRONT COVER

Language
This front cover includes many media language. For example, the medium close up of Seth Troxler is used as the main image for the magazine. This image has been taken because it shows that Seth is looking serious with his hand towards his moustache and also not having a full frontal view of the camera as he is looking away. Relating to this, the main cover line explains that Seth "Gets serious" which shows that the image is linking to the main story line. Another example of media language being used is the masthead because as you can see the mast head is across the top of the front cover which mainly all mast heads are to show why it is there in big bold letters and a bright colour to make it stand out. I think they used the colour white because the background of the front cover is mainly dark, dull colours and you would need to represent who made the magazine. The last media language is the use of a CD which shows it is a prize/plug to bring the readers attention so they can get a sneak peek into what they would be reading and what kind of music is associated with this magazine. If the audience like the CD's they put in then it will make the audience want to buy the magazine every week which ends up with Mixmag getting profit.
Institution
The publisher of Mixmag is Development Hell LTD which according to Wikipedia is "The company that also owns The Word music magazine, in 2005". This means that because Development Hell LTD own another magazine it shows they are very popular and reliable for good magazines. In 2007, Nick DeCosemo became editor because Development Hell thought that the magazine wasn't giving out a good vibe and was not the best thing as suggested that dance music was a minority interest.
Ideology
The magazine gives up a very clubbing/party feeling as you are reading. It makes you want to go partying internationally with other people as that is what dance music is all about.
Audience
For mixmag, "I have used the mix mage media pack" to find this information for my product. Firstly, the reader profile for Mixmag is 72% male and  28% female showing there is a distinct divide in which gender reads a club dance magazine more due to the content inside it. As well as this, the median age of a Mixmag reading is 24, the majority live in cities and are single meaning that a good range of 24 year olds like to listen and be at club festivals and I should be aiming my audience at that particular age.

Representation
Seth Troxler is represented by Mixmag in an individual kind of way. They make Seth look like he is important with just him in the picture being in a dark background which could relate to his music being unique and unlike any other dance music out there.

CONTENTS PAGE

Language
This contents page includes many media language. For example, the close up of the girl is used as the main image for the contents. This image has been taken because it shows that dance music makes people happy as the girl has a big smile on her face as well as surrounded by a music background with other people blurred out which shows that type of music is entertaining and speaks to all genders. Another example of media language being used is the contents writing list because as you can see the contents list is laid out so you can see it clearly and efficiently with different types of stories going on with the magazine so you can see if you will enjoy it or not. The last media language is the use of Seth Troxler's CD which shows that in the dance business, Seth is seen to be important because of the music he plays. The contents page also includes what is going to be on the CD as well as the background of making the CD for Mixmag.

Audience
For the contents page, it mainly contains people dancing and looking like they are having a good time. From the dance media pack, I have discovered that the majority of people who look at the magazine are mainly from the United Kingdom with the rate being at 32.9% and then 21.3% from United States. The statistics also show the audience profile as being mainly male representatives with the most amount of age range being at 18-24 year olds with 28%,

Representation
The girl in the contents page represents Mixmag because it shows how entertaining the music of the magazine is whilst being at a concert/live performance. The people around her are also happy and enjoy what is happening because they are all very close to each other which suggests that it could be a "rave" which young people tend to go too.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Language
This double spread page includes many media language. For example, the close up of Seth Troxler is used as the main image for the double page spread as well as the war image on the left. These images have been taken because it shows that dance music makes people happy and also relates to all different people as it was around for many years but only came big in the 21st century. Another example of media language being used is the different stories on each page because as you can see the double page spread is laid out to look like one century on the left page and another on the right of the page as Seth quotes "We love this culture and this music. We gave everything to it" This shows that the media and the music are relevant to many types of people, old and new. The last media language is the use of headlines for each page which shows that they are including different types of stories and also is bright and bold as well as the front cover which shows the background is dull so to liven up the magazine like dance music, they used bright colours effectively like the connotation of aluminous leg warmers.

Audience
The audience for a double page spread is to attract them by the artist who is being shown throughout the magazine with little snip-its on what is going to be talked about when they are having there interview with the Mixmag producers.

Representation
The two pictures represent different things as the picture on the left shows war and that maybe they wouldn't of had the type of dance music we have now and it wasn't big then but it is in this magazine so young people can know about what happened in that era with the type of music they listened too. On the other hand, the picture on the right is different because it shows only one person and what they are all about in such a dark background and also showing that he is still serious from the front page story, very controversial.
