Final product of my front cover

This is my final product of my front cover magazine. I am extremely happy with the finishing touches I have made in the last 4 weeks to be able to produce this.

Process of making my front cover

These are different images to put on my magazine because I do not know which of these pictures to pick for my magazine.

I do not like this picture as it is not very good and doesn't stand out to me that she is in a nightclub, it is showing to me that she is just having fun and having a good time when she needs to know she is in a club like any other DJ.

I think i may use this picture for one of my double page spread to make it stand out.

I liked this photo but it is too grainy and the hands do not look well with the background and masthead.

This is the picture I am going to be using for my front cover. However, there are a few problems as the picture seems to be a bit grainy as it was took in the dark as well as the mast head having a black rectangle around it because it goes into the background of the picture and it doesn't look good. I am now thinking of changing the rectangle colour to orange, the same as the colour face paint on her cheeks.

I have now changed the masthead to a red rectangle as it goes with the colour of the models cheeks. I have also changed the "I" to a green colour because it also goes with the colour of her hands. I think this looks better than a black background because you can now easily see what the name of the magazine is called as well as being able to see the picture clearly.

As you can see through the use of layers, I am now changing the brightness, exposures, levels to make my picture brighter and better. Comparing this picture to the one before it, I have made the face and the hands a lot brighter to give the effect of being in a nightclub.

I have used a new layer and went on overlay to make the eyes look brighter for full enhancement. As you can see, the one on the left is the before and the one on the right is the after picture. I used a youtube tutorial to help me figure out how to brighten up the eyes and the teeth are. In my opinion, it makes the eyes stand out more as I have used the brush with a white colour to make them look bigger and brighter than they actually are.

This is me using layer style to make my headline bigger than the other small headlines which I have now added as well but instead of it being yellow like in the mock ups, I have now changed it to green because that is the colour that is most associated in the picture. When using layer style, I have made the size of stroke to 10 so it has the slight effect of the green touch coming out of it.

I have now added inner shadow into the "Amy Beats" to enhance the effect with the Distance at 12px, Choke at 16px and the size at 38px and it looks better with the inner shadow because it gives a glow just like a glow stick would do whilst in a nightclub.

This is the last effect I have put on the "Amy Beats" headline. I have now added Drop Shadow into this making the distance - 36px, spread - 24px and size - 111px.

I have now added in my lower main headline underneath "Amy Beats". This is mainly the same effects as the main headline, but I have made them less effective because the whole attraction is that the audience needs to be focused on what the main story is. For layer style again, I have used inner shadow - 9px, choke - 14px and size - 13px to make it like the headline but not the same.

 Now, I am just adding little things to make it look more like a magazine, just like in this screenshot, I have added a barcode to know how you can buy it with the date it was published.

 I have now brought the finger above the "MIX"  to make it have a better effect on the whole of the magazine, however, I cannot change the colour of the end of the finger so it has to be a little bit grainy but you would not be able to tell when looking at the full image.

I have now changed the writing of the aritsts "Katy B etc" to the top instead of the middle because I thought it would have better effect being at the top rather than the plug being on the top. Now I have made the plug in the centre of the image on the right so then the audience are being drawn into the magazine because they are able to get a free cd as well.

I have now created a website you can use to go onto my blog called www.mix-dancemag.co.uk as i was able to use any different type of searcher as I have chosen a website name which no one has used before.

Now, I am able to put finishing touches on my front cover such as lining all of the texts next to the rulers to make them all perfectly in line so nothing looks out of place and incorrect.

I am now adding some little effects onto my plug to make it stand out a bit more with the front cover. This will make it bring attention to the readers eyes as well as knowing that they will be able to win a free CD!

I have now added another headline "IBIZA ROCKS, TIME TO PARTY!" because I felt like only two headlines was not enough and also I wanted the readers not to notice the grainy arm, but now you don't take notice of the arm as it has texts on it so it takes the attention away for how grainy the picture is.

I have put 225px of Bevel and Emboss to make the "Katy B etc" look better and have more effect by bringing out more bold green and to make the front cover have different types of fonts and interpretations to make the magazine unique.

I have chosen to use a theme of UV light paint because I have chosen a dance genre and this is mainly what you associate with clubbing. I have decided to do different types of shots to make the readers think that they are in the club with the magazine whilst reading it.

I did upload a video, however, the video has turned into an image format and it is not available to play therefore, i cannot show you me putting the paint onto my model.

The design of my masthead

These are different suggestions of fonts to pick for my front cover. I have picked the font of lithos pro because it has a very dance feel about it as it is all seperate and dance music is definitely seperate to classical music as well as making it stand out with just 3 letters.

These are the different types of colours for my font "Lithos Pro". I like many types of the font, however, I am going to make a google mock up of the colours "MIX" with a while colour for the "M" "X" and the "I" in a yellow font and also MIX with the white colour for "M" "X" and red for the "I".

First google mock up

This is my first attempt at my google mock up. I have used a white plain background because I have not taken my pictures yet so I will not know what it will turn out like on my mock up. As you can see, I have used my mast head "MIX" onto a black rectangle to show the effect of the white and yellow colours. I think it is effective because it shows a dynamic illuminious effect like I would want my picture to be shown on the google mock up.

 This is a screenshot of an illuminious picture on Google I have found which I would want my picture to look like. I have chosen this because the picture goes well with the black rectangle outside of the mast head "MIX" and also I have put the layer of the picture before that rectangle so it gives the full effect of the picture to be shown when a customer will want to buy it.

 This is a screenshot of me putting a plug on my magazine. However, the use of the colours of the plug which is white does not look good with yellow writing because it is very hard to see against a black background and also white and yellow does not go together.

This is a screenshot of me trying the opposite colours of the plug. This still doesn't look good against the black background, you cannot understand what the words actually say and it doesn't link with the background. 

 This is my screenshot of me putting a headline onto my front cover. I have used "Gouty spout font" as "LEEDS FESTIVAL" to make it stand out for the readers. Also, I have used the font lithos pro for "Going for it in leeds" with a bright yellow effect which follows the pattern of the front cover. I have also changed the opacity of the yellow plug to 80% so then it is not that bright which the readers can then read the writing inside the plug. I have got the barcode off of the internet to make it realistic.

This is my final mock up. I have chosen a completely new original name as well as putting more names onto the side of the mock up front cover.

Google mock up 2

This is my second mock up I have created. I have changed "MIX" into a different colour with the "I" to show a different neon colour to represent the dance music. I have also changed the way the main story line is instead of being straight along the bottom of the picture. I have also changed the picture as I wanted to see what the front cover would look like with a long shot.

 This is me adding storylines to the front cover. With the same fonts as mock up 1 but all i have done is change the colour to orange. Also, for the main headline "My aim is to please my fans!" i have used rotation so it links with the main headline cover story. I have also added some features such as going onto layer, layer style and going on inner shadow to create a different tone and effect onto the writing. For distance i have changed it to 8, choke is on 18 and size is on 6 to create a bigger effect.

I have added the same plug in the same position. This is the final product of the google mock up 2.

Google Mock Up 3

 This is my final google mock up. I have decided to change the picture again as i don't know which camera framing I would like to use so i have used different types of google images.

I have changed the position of the plug so it doesn't get contaminated with the regular neon colours with the uv light. Personally, I think it looks better at the side and the top because it keeps all the focus onto the main story line which is "Amy Beats".





The name of my magazine

I have chosen a dance genre for my magazine for an age group for 17-19 year olds. These are some of the suggested names for my magazine:

I have come to the conclusion that the name of my magazine is going to be called "MIX". This is because it is very short and snappy and it dignifies what the magazine is about. Also, when I did the survey 50% of the people who asnwered the survey said that MIX was the best one.

Survey Monkey Results

This is to show whether the audience is mainly female or male and who I'm going to be publishing it for.

This shows that the audience will be ranging between mainly 17-19 year olds showing that they are mostly into their club music and partying which means I need to reach out to that audience.

Again, this shows that the readers will be mainly students who are looking for a good time whilst out partying.

This is showing me that mainly people who are reading this are earning money up to £10k and are able to go out clubbing.

As there are many males who have done the survey, 46% believed that Calvin Harris is the better musician because he is more aware with teens and has the right music for the right club-goers.

With this, it shows that society is different to how it used to be. Now we have technology, more 17-19 year olds listen to downloaded MP3's rather than buying CD's or listening to things on the radio.

Most 17-19 year olds now go to watch live music about twice a year because music (especially clubbing) are exciting to go see and get the atmosphere from the crowds and that is what most teenagers want.

Unfortunately in this question, the audience cannot decide whether they prefer reading about music every week or never, This is quite drastic as most teenagers would rather go and see their artists as well as reading about them.

This screenshot tells me that many people like the name "Explode" as well as "MIX". I have to now make a decision to choose which one I prefer for my magazine.

The last question is unanimous. All the people who voted on this survey have showed me that they would be paying £3-£4 due to the cost of the magazine. This is showing me that the cost of my magazine will be within this category.
